Bar Talk

Bar Talk is a short story collection with interrelated characters and story lines. The genre is modern noir, think Fargo.

NOW AVALIABLE

Bar Talk

A man walks into a bar and sits down next to a stranger. They begin to talk. It’s a common occurrence. It happens every day. Except there is nothing common about either of these two men. Curiosity rules one man’s behavior. The other has a talent for finding himself entangled in other people’s problems. In the end, it will require professional cleaners to remove the bloodstains from the floor.

Bar Talk harkens back to the film noir era, but takes place in modern times. Sprinkled in is a psychological twist that challenges the borderline between good and evil.

A Case of Mistaken Identity

The Bellevue College Critique Group, BCCG, has produced a short story anthology based on the theme of ‘A Case of Mistaken Identity.’ Be prepared to laugh, cry, gasp and maybe be a little frightened.

Wave Farewell to the Lyzard

In 1607, the same year Jamestown was settled, the English attempted to start a colony in Maine. This novel is based on this little-known event.

The novel begins in 1603 when an impetuous young Native American named Skico encounters an English exploration ship. His uncanny ability to ‘understand’ what the Englishmen say traps Skico into becoming his village’s emissary and a reluctant passenger on his way to England.

Skico becomes the proverbial “stranger in a strange land.” Marvels and dangers, both real and imagined, surround him. After four years in England, Skico is eager to return home. He exploits the greed of the English to convince them to locate a colony near his village.

On the ship home, Skico must survive a blockade by a Dutch man-of-war, gale force winds and enraged prejudice. Home again, Skico’s journey is not over. The English presence sparks rivalries between the neighboring villages. An unknown plague follows. Skico doubts his own identity; no longer just a villager, but not English either. Can he protect his people from the English intrusion that he created?

I was inspired to write this novel when I discovered that a major participant, Captain James Davis, is my 9th great-grandfather.

This novel is in the professional editing stage. I expect to send it out to literary agents in soon.
